Survivor leadership & advocacy

Advocacy grounded in lived experience.

My work examines the evolution of modern trafficking and how exploitation is understood. I advocate for survivor recognition, support, and expertise in shaping the response.

01 / Awareness & understanding

Challenging incomplete narratives.

I challenge simplified narratives about human trafficking that overlook coercive control, technology-facilitated exploitation, and experiences that do not fit familiar stereotypes.

I draw attention to patterns of exploitation and barriers that prevent survivors’ experiences from being recognized.

02 / Survivor leadership

Meaningful participation and influence.

I advocate for survivors to hold meaningful roles in leadership, research, education, technology, and program development.

Survivor-informed work draws on lived experience throughout planning and decision-making. Survivor-led work creates opportunities for survivors to set priorities and direct that work.

Both place survivors at the table, with a voice in setting priorities and shaping decisions.

03 / Survivor-informed responses

Examining gaps in existing systems.

My work brings attention to survivor identification, trauma-informed responses, and the challenges people encounter after exploitation.

I examine gaps in policies and services, with attention to coercion, survivors’ choices, and barriers to safety, support, and opportunity.

04 / Technology-facilitated exploitation

Recognizing digital coercion.

Technology-facilitated exploitation belongs in conversations about trafficking and coercive control. Digital threats and restrictions can affect a person’s ability to communicate, seek support, and make decisions.

I advocate for services, policies, and professional responses that recognize these forms of control.
